European Union assistance for flood relief in Serbia

European Union has provided 30 million worth of funds for the immediate reconstruction of schools, kindergartens, houses, residential buildings, and health centres damaged by floods. Program “European Union assistance for flood relief in Serbia” is financed by the European Union from IPA (Instruments for pre-accession) funds.

Reconstruction projects will be implemented by the United Nations Agencies UNOPS (Office for Project Services) and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation), as well as three international NGOs – ASB (Arbeiter Samariter Bund), DRC (Danish Refugee Council) and HELP (German organisation providing assistance to reconstruction and rehabilitation of flooded areas).

14 million euros will be allocated for the reconstruction of public institutions; 8 million euros will be aimed at cleaning and restoring private homes, whereas another EUR 8 million will be earmarked to restart the agricultural production.

ASB, together with partner organizations Housing Center, Initiative for Development and Cooperation and Foundation “Ana and Vlade Divac”, will provide reconstruction of 168 Housing Units, construction of 30 Prefabricated/Brick Housing Units, furniture and appliances to 200 flood affected families in eight municipalities: Šabac, Šid, Bajina Bašta, Loznica, Mali Zvornik, Valjevo, Ljubovija andi Osečina.

Moreover, project partners will, for revitalization of flood affected and damaged business, provide agriculture households and micro small and medium enterprises with reconstruction of 34 damaged premises and provision of 100 Income-generating grants.
