BELGRADE – Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has thanked Knut Fleckenstein, chairman of the Workers’ Samaritan Federation (ASB) in Germany, for the humanitarian organization’s experts and volunteers helping the Serbian authorities in taking care of refugees, especially in Subotica and Kanjiza in northern Serbia.

During the meeting that Vucic and Fleckenstein had on Saturday, the Serbian prime minister said that the Serbian government was taking all appropriate measures to ensure that refugees were registered and taken care of.

Fleckenstein commended Serbia for being responsible and well organized when it came to taking care of refugees on its territory, adding that by doing so, Serbia had become an example of respect for European values.

The ASB, which in Germany has about 1.2 million members, will soon also provide Serbia with financial assistance to help the reception of refugees, he said. As Fleckenstein also serves as vice president of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Prime Minister Vucic thanked him for the the political group’s support of Serbia’s efforts on the European path, according to a release from the Serbian government’s media relations office..
