ASB started its direct operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in 1994. In Mostar, in close liaison with the EU Administration under Hans Koschnick, ASB carried out a number of projects in the field of emergency relief, social and economic infrastructure. During the period of 22 years ASB in BiH has implemented projects valued at over € 60 million and reconstructed over 2000 houses. Through more than 60 projects, 25.000 persons have been assisted in 74 municipalities in BiH with the reconstruction of houses, and numerous initiatives in the field of technical, social and economic infrastructure along with emergency relief.
From the year 2000, ASB took another advanced step in its assistance to BiH by opening offices in Derventa, North-West Bosnia, and Visoko, Central Bosnia, for the implementation of the EU-funded Integrated Return Packages (IRP) under the OBNOVA programme. In 2002, ASB had been granted the EU-funded project under CARDS 2001 for the value of €2.2 million, earmarked for the reconstruction of 190 houses in six municipalities (Bugojno, Jajce, Dobretići, Kiseljak, Busovača and Novi Travnik) in Central Bosnia, including the reconnection to water and electricity distribution systems, economic support to returning beneficiaries and capacity building of local NGOs. This was the 1st project in this nature implemented by ASB in Bosnia and Herzegovina and was followed by four more CARDS projects implemented by ASB. Over the years, ASB had also completed a number of projects in the field of emergency repair funded by the German Government such as the reconstruction of 514 houses, provision of medical assistance and the distribution of humanitarian aid, which is still needed in some parts of BiH.
ASB is a German aid and welfare organisation, engaged in areas such as civil protection, rescue services and social welfare services. As a non-political organisation, ASB has, since its foundation in 1888, provided rapid and direct help to all those in need of our support.
